Saturday mornings at Tweed River are all about the kiddos. Being a family-friendly festival, children under age 6 are free, and kids aged 7-12 can stay for the whole weekend for only $10. But Tweed goes much further than letting your bring your rugrats in for cheap. Puppetree, a marionette troupe gave a stellar performance to a large crowd of bright-eyed children, in which they learned the value of not polluting. Punctuating this; a group of kids wandered through the grounds collecting cigarette butts and cleaning any found trash, not because they were told to, but because it was the right thing to do. In truth Tweed River Music Festival was one of the cleanest festivals I had ever been to. There was nary a piece of trash on the ground, likely due to the fact that trashcans and recycle bins were everywhere and emptied regularly. The port-o-potties were cleaned not just once, but twice a day, making late night trips to the penalty box that much more bearable. And the resplendent beauty of the Tweed River from which the festival draws its name remained untarnished, despite a constant flow of people in and out of the area. Saturday’s music contained all sorts of new treasures to behold. One of the things that Tweed prides itself on is an ability to remain “genre-free.” After years of failing to disappoint I Last year, No Small Children had won my heart. An all-girl punk trio from L.A. these femme fatales spend the summer touring the country rocking people’s faces off and the rest of the year as grade school teachers. This year they had been moved from the opening slot, only seen by a few, to the second headliner on Saturday night where all could share in the awesomeness. There were two events on stage that need to be mentioned here, one was the epic cover of Salt-n-Pepa and En Vogues, “Whatta Man” the other is Bow Thayer in a dress, neither one can easily be forgotten. searching for that paradise, a place to truly feel at peace. Bow Thayer and Perfect Trainwreck’s Eden capi tulates that ideology and puts it to music. Joined on stage by belly dancers from the Sisterhood of the Silk Road and a bevy of other musicians, Bow and his crew weave together a symphony that can only be called transcendental. Let me just say here, that Bow Thayer is more than the festivals headliner, his is a large part of the soul of the entire event. While Thayer is quick to pass credit to the volunteers and other staff tirelessly helping, you can always see him actively making the show memorable. Whether it’s jumping on stage with one of the many acts he’s friends with, or playing games with the youngins, he’s always doing something. Prior to the show he’s building fences and carrying gear and after the show he’s cleaning up. Bow Thayer is more than a headline musician, he’s a headline person, and from me and on behalf of all who a GFV?B??v?V?B??RF?6?F?????R?7V?F???&???r?2?v?2???FW&W7F??r'B?bF?RfW7F?f?????v??r??F???????G&Ww2F?BF?R6??r?26???rF?6??6R?V??R6WB&?WB6???rW6??B6GW&F???v?N( ?27&?vBv2B6???rf&WvV??2F??Wr?B??Bg&?V?G266?G???Bf?"F?Rf?'7BF??R??GvVVB??7F?'?6??RV??R?BF?&R??R?F??2?V'2GvVVB6rG&?F?2WF?6???F?R??V?B?bGW&?VBv?BF?RvFR???W?B?V"V??R7F?6???r&?V?BF?f???7W'F??&W6W'fR??W"F?6?WG2f??2?v???R6???6??6??r?WBF?R6??rv2??F?W"???fW&???BfW7F?f?2?fR&VV?GvVVB?V??W2??B??R?b?Gv??F??r?BG???r?fb?GvVVBff?&?FR??6?7G2?v????7VVB?6??F??VW2F?w&?r??V???V???????r???WFR6WBF?fW'?F?B?VBWfV?B6??&F??F?"?&?"?4fFFV?GG&?'WFW2F?( ?F?R?V6?WW2&V6?F?fR7&?vB?v????7VVB?WBWF?RF?&V?W72V?W&w??B?bw&VBf?2?B7Ffb?( ????F??VB&?v?BV?F??F?R?7B???V?B?6GW&F?( ?2???WfV?Bv2GvVVBRv2??&RF???W7B???R?F?W"F??&?rF??W"v?F???2&?B?W&fV7BG&??w&V6?W&f?&??r?W6?2fW7F?f???B?26V?V?FVB?G6V?b2f??GW&R?bF?R6???V??G?&?F?F?V?"?FW7B??B?'V?VFV????G2??6??B'&?B??6Rf?"&V??V?F?&WG??F?R&?&?6?v&FV??bVFV??2F?????6Rf?"V??????rg&?V?G6???B?fR??vV?W&ò?B?2f?"????FV?G26??6WB?FW7?FR??&V?v??W2?BW'?6W2?VFV??6????FF???2??F?Rv?&Bv^( ?&R????
