Rehearsals begin Monday evening, September 9, at the Second Congregational Church in Bennington. New singers are welcome and encouraged to join. The choral society’s fall program, “Raise the Song,” features music for the cycle of autumn holidays from Labor Day, the unofficial “end of summer,” to the winter solstice. Concert performances on Saturday and Sunday, November 23 and 24, feature music for Rosh Hashannah by Louis Lewandowski; by Spanish composers of the 15th century for Columbus Day; and “Blow Ye the Trumpet,” from Kirke Mecham’s opera “John BENNINGTON COUNTY CHORAL SOCIETY SEEKS SINGERS FOR FALL CONCERT: ‘RAISE THE SONG’ Ra fr M A M Brown”; and a lovely recent setting of the familiar Thanksgiving text “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come,” by Jason McCoy. The BCCS is joined by the Mount Anthony Union High School (MAUHS) Chamber Singers, directed by Lynn Sweet, in a collaboration for Veterans Day and in an anticipation of the winter holiday season. The combined group sings a group of familiar carols humorously VT and NH’s ENTERTAINMENT AUTHORITY www.cidermag.com arranged with mismatched music , including pieces for men’s and women’s choruses, and for a select small group. The Bennington County Choral Society is an adult chorus drawn from southern Vermont and nearby New York and Mass communities. It aims to foster an environment where chorus members coalesce as a group and develop as an ensemble, with the goal of growing musically through weekly rehearsals and performances that are a source of pride and pleasure. The chorus, which performs three concerts each year, is open to ages 15 and older and all singing/reading abilities.
