Bobby Nuggz Top 10 Reggae-Rock Debut Album Countdown #6 Rebelution Courage to Grow Release Date: June 2007 Record Label: Independent 22 • CIDER MAG • cidermag.com R ebelution established their entire career with the release of their 2007 debut Courage to Grow. This album will forever be remembered as a milestone for the band and has distinguished them amongst legends in recent reggae rock history. After its release, Courage to Grow stayed at number four on the Top Reggae Album Charts for quite some time, so be prepared to turn it up and drift away in the rhythmic masterpiece. Discovering Courage to Grow changed my life in so many positive ways and it has set the pace for many other up-and-coming bands of this genre over the past six years. From Eric Rachmany’s lyrical depth to his smooth, melodic and pleasant vocals that eases your soul from the beginning, to percussionist Wesley Finley’s skill set that perfectly aligns with Marley Williams’ brilliant bass rips. The band concludes for a great balance of instruments that are tastefully put together. Leading off with the title track “Courage to Grow”, Rebelution immediately lets you know that they come equipped with true meaning- fulness. It is as if you are literally captured by the sound. The lyrics start off with, “This is a song for those who lost their hope a long long time ago.” After five years of frequently listening to this album, I am still not even close to sick of this song. I think about how I can become a better person and improve my life. It is a very inspiring and refreshing song, and the album as a whole is timeless. “Heart like a Lion” has exactly what I look for if I need to unwind after a long day. “Feeling Alright” is an excellent song with moving guitar rips and distinctly cheerful drums. The title of this song says it all; the feel good vibes will “Help your troubles sail real far away.” The simple drum beat and acoustic guitar rips really accent Rachmany’s voice. “Running” is an outstanding song that is powerfully written with heavy and catchy keyboard lines. It holds a message to face your troubles instead of running away from them. Courage to Grow is the ultimate success story for these talented artists, making it exciting to watch their future unfold ■ June• 2015
