What is it about the General Strike of 1919 that compelled you to write a musical and now a feature fi l m ? I was taken by how the circumstances play out across the world again today . The extreme anti-immigrant bias in Europe is relatable – towards Mexico in the US … Unions are a threat the same way they were when this story took place . People say history is circular . Times change but people don ’ t .

Why was it important to shoot this film in Winnipeg ? It couldn ’ t be shot anywhere else – all the locations are here – and it needed this city ’ s community spirit .
What is the most interesting thing about Winnipeg you learned during this project ? Big aspirations of 1919 Winnipeg are returning . Today I see that . Anything is possible .
What are your 3 favourite locations in Winnipeg ? The legislative building , for its stunning architecture . The Forks and the CMHR are tied , and my local hockey arena . I ’ m an avid player , and outdoor rinks are so Canadian .
What is your “ go-to ” snack during filming ? Chocolate almonds .

What is your favourite restaurant in the whole world ? Super tough question ! Segovia … I ’ m a lover of Santa Lucia pizza . There were some fine ones in Cannes , France . schur strikes a chord
