Ciao !’ s annual award program ,
Good Food Manitoba recognizes businesses and individuals supporting local products . It ’ s our way of celebrating regional and cultural diversity of our province and saluting the people in the food field making a difference to what and how we eat .
This year , we recognize The Canadian Birch Company as Producer of the Year , Red River Co-op as food Retailer of the year , and Era Bistro as Restaurant of the Year . Each of these winners has a positive impact on this community with its buying practices and we are thrilled to tell their stories . I hope they encourage you to ask questions when buying food . It ’ s the first step in making good food choices and supporting great businesses and owners for their efforts .
To take advantage of summer ’ s fresh picked greens , and eat more veggies , ciao ! cooks presents four outstanding recipes for fresh juice . These concoctions are sure to knock your socks off ! A visit to Verde Juice Bar or Green Carrot Juice Co . will amp up your fashion quotient too – look around and see the cool kids are sipping vegetables .
With so much top quality food products available locally , it is not uncommon to hear cooks and chefs declare their family recipes taste even better here than what they cook in their native land . Ingredients grown in Manitoba will often be superior to those sourced elsewhere , and they come at great value ! In my world , every time of year is restaurant season , but with August ’ s multicultural spirit in the air , I encourage you to use the best list on these pages , and get out and try something new .
