EDUCATION CIAN aspires to reach out to students and professionals (including industry members and eucators seeking professional development) to improve their understanding of and interest in STEM fields, specifically in optics & photonics. PHOTONICS HUB EDUCATIONAL CLEARINGHOUSE CIAN offers an online, freely-accessibly clearinghouse of educational materials developed by educators on topics of optics, photonics, phys- ics, engineering, and more. These materials are available at http://pho- tonicshub.org HIGHER EDUCATION IN PHOTONICS Intereseted in pursuing a higher education oppor- tunity with CIAN? The initial coverage was primarily limited to point-to-point fiber optic links, and networks were covered only briefly. CIAN developed the Photonic Communications Engineering courses to contain more in depth coverage of key topics such as guided wave optics, optoelectronic and electro-optic devices, fiber optic transmission engineering, and network theory, with more challenging and quantitative homework and exams. In addition, the amount of the course devoted to optical communication networks has expanded significantly, reflecting the increasing importance of optical networks for communications.
