Unless you’re in college, chances are those statements surprised you. I consider myself quite young—especially during Churchnet staff meetings (going to get in trouble for that one!). And yet, a few of those mindset items still shocked me as I remember the world differently. With such a different view of what’s “normal,” it is important for professors to understand the students they are trying to educate.

Similarly, church leaders must think carefully about the different worldviews, experiences, and understandings of those in other generations and cultures. The Generational Engagement Team hopes to help churches with this important task. We will be particularly focusing on identifying models for best practices, assisting congregations with strategies for effective digital communications, helping congregations with storytelling evangelism, and providing training events/resources.

We won’t necessarily be putting together a “mindset list,” but the basic idea of that list should guide the work of our team and the churches we serve. We can’t just keep doing the same old things and expect it to resonate with those in different generations and cultures.

Meanwhile, remember that for those who just finished their freshmen year of college, “Hong Kong has always been part of China.” What?! Oh, great, now I feel old.
