in other ways. She concluded, “The challenge is church leaders need to wake up now.”

Other Baptist leaders—from Australia and India—also talked about how climate change is not a future hypothesis but a present reality negatively impacting their communities. I heard similar stories last December when I traveled to Paris for the United Nations climate talks. Christians from the Philippines, India, Singapore, and elsewhere all talked about how climate change hurts their people. And some openly wondered if Christians in the U.S. will care about their global neighbors.

It’s easy for me to dismiss what I cannot see or just listen to the talking heads on TV. But when I meet and listen to our Christian neighbors from the global South, they convict me that to truly love them as Christ commanded, I must listen and act accordingly. I cannot ignore the passionate voice of Ditoka. We are better because we are part of the BWA and connected to the global Baptist family.
