One other aspect of our partnership has been the support for the Tabitha Ministry that cares for women and children living near the Guatemala City dump. The Tabitha Ministry provides a variety of services and assistance, including a school for the children. In addition to funds provided by Churchnet for this vital ministry, the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit gave an entire week’s offering (more than $38,000) in 2013 to support the work of the Tabitha Ministry in Guatemala. This was the second time the church has made this type of sacrificial gift to missions. What a generous congregation they are! Several other congregations have also raised funds for this ministry.

I still have very vivid memories of the first regional training event I had the privilege of helping lead. I remember the gracious and warm people who were open and eager to learn. I remember their passion for their Savior. I remember their excitement when we presented a stack of leadership books to each participant, and I remember posing for pictures as they showed off their new resources.

There is no way to know how many lives have been changed because of our partnership with Guatemala Baptists, and by no means were they all from Guatemala. My life has been changed, too. The Guatemalan Partnership was a gift from God for the Baptists of Missouri. I am confident God will continue to use the relationships we have built. If you have a desire to share with some of the most gracious people in the world, I encourage you to consider volunteering to help with the leadership for one of the

regional training events. Think

about leading your church to send

a team to partner with a local

congregation in Guatemala. Don’t

miss out on this wonderful gift.
