Guest Speaker: Dr. Jason Sokol

Sunday, January 13 after church

As part of our events honoring Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, we will welcome historian and civil rights expert Dr. Jason Sokol to discuss his timely book “The Heavens Might Crack: The Death and Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.”

Dr. Sokol, a Springfield/Longmeadow native, is a UNH associate professor of History and an expert in American race relations and civil rights. His book is his third and is critically acclaimed; not a traditional biography, but rather it

documents and explores the varied reactions to King’s shocking assassination in 1968 and how it impacted and still impacts American society. Books are available in the church office.

We will be asking Dr. Sokol questions prepared after church on January 6 by the social justice and adult education teams as well as interested participant readers. Please have questions in mind as you read the book which can be purchased in the Church Office.

Lunch will be available prior to Dr.Sokol’s talk and childcare will be provided.
