Health & Safety

The Deacon Team has been discussing the health & safety of those who spend time in the church building. They purchased a new first-aid kit for the Narthex.

Deacon Anne Landry has been carefully researching information about A.E.D.’s – automated external defibrillators for the church. Her findings have been presented to both the Deacons and the Leadership Team.

Despite the fact that our building is directly across the street from the Longmeadow Police and Fire stations, we all know that in a cardiac emergency every second counts! The Fire Department believes that every public building should have an A.E.D. All of our schools have them. Anne has found a company that can offer us a discount. Most of the defibrillators cost between $1,000 and $1,500. Perhaps someone in our congregation might feel called to help our church purchase this very important piece of equipment? Please contact Maura in the church office (567-6287) if God is whispering in your ear about providing this potentially life-saving device for the church building.

Busy Knitting Needles

In June, 2004 a group of First Church women

met to discuss forming a Prayer Shawl Ministry. Prayers Shawls would be knitted for those who are grieving, in need of healing, & for joyous occasions or whatever the need.

As a shawl is knitted silent prayers are woven into it for the person receiving it to feel God's love and caring and the love of First Church.

In 2017, The Prayer Shawl Ministry is alive and going strong. At present there are 20 people in the group. Would you believe the 700th shawl was just given?! That's a lot of stitches! Now little personal sized shawls to carry with you are fashioned (in a basket in the church library - help yourself!). Also, when a baby is baptized a small white blanket is presented to his/her family.

The members know this is such a worthwhile project and get such a good feeling doing it. Won't you join us? The knitting is very easy. Call Ruth Sandow (796-4982).

If you or someone you know needs a shawl, please call the church office, 567-6287.
