Group Trips to Tanglewood

July 15 and August 19

Summer is here and so are Sundays at Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. You don't have to love classical music (but it helps) or to love a gourmet picnic at a beautiful setting in the Berkshires (but it helps), but if you might like the combination, then join our group this summer.

Our scouting team heads up there early enough to reserve a great spot under a magnificent tree. Soon the rest of the group fills in with snacks and pot luck. The maestro raises his baton at 2:30 pm to start the concert.

July 15: Mendlessohn Symphony # 4, Bernstein Chichester Psalms Beethoven Piano Concerto #1 - Yoja Wang (Google her)

August 19: Yo Yo Ma all afternoon: Bernstein, John Williams, Bartok

Habitat for Humanity Legacy Build

In honor of their 30th Anniversary building homes in the Greater Springfield area, Habitat for Humanity will be conducting a "Blitz Build" July 14-21 at 963 Sumner Avenue in Springfield. The Blitz Build has a goal of building a new home from existing slab to a fully finished exterior over the one week period.

First Church has been Greater Springfield Habitat's most consistent partner over the past 30 years. In honor of this partnership, our church made a $10,000 donation from our Mission Endowment fund to become a lead sponsor on this project.

As sponsors, our church has the opportunity to provide a group of volunteers for the wall raising on Saturday, July 14, 8:30 am – 3 pm. No prior building experience is required; if you would like to volunteer (volunteers must be at least 18 years old), please email Steve Gelling ([email protected]).
