power? Was the messaging spun that this was for the

safety and well being of all? And yet, this story unfolds

here and now too. The threat of mass deportation by our politicians amounts to more than just words. It has been accompanied by a surge in ICE raids and propaganda painting all immigrants as threats to the nation's economy and security.

We must lift our voices. We must be lights shining against this darkness. All of our humanity is at stake.”

A New Font for a New Era at First Church?

The Deacon Team has been exploring the possibility of having a new baptismal font for our church. Of course we love our historic marble font which has been returned to the sanctuary. But that wonderful font is EXTREMELY heavy! It cannot be easily moved to where it should be for baptisms. . .front and center in the service.

Conversation for over a year has taken place about having a font that is portable. A beautiful bowl would sit in a specially made wooden stand and be able to be moved to the front of the sanctuary or perhaps to the “cut out” area in the center of the congregation for baptisms. A glass artist has been found to make a gorgeous bowl similar to the one above. Even better news is that our own Steve Gelling has agreed to make the stand for the bowl once a bowl has been purchased!

All that is needed now is some First Church members to help purchase the bowl! Work cannot begin until the money is raised. It will cost approximately $1200. If 12 people donated $100 each, we could do this. If God is “putting it on your heart” to help with this project, please please make your check out to First Church with “baptismal font” in the memo line. Contact Mary Friedman (413-244-2065 or [email protected]) with questions. Let’s provide a beautiful new font for this new chapter in our church’s life!
