The 16th century
One of the objectives of our Erasmus project "Your History is our History" is to
deal with the 16 th century. That is why we have carried out an interdisciplinary project to
work on this topic, including the subjects of English, Art Education and Music. We have
called it "Once Upon a Time in the 16 th Century" and its main objective is to value the
arts, culture and society of the 16 th century in Europe, especially in England.
To fulfill our purpose, we have carried out different activities related to music,
dance, fashion and literature of the time.
After the presentation of the project to the students, we began by watching a
video of a dance set in that century and we carried out the thinking routine "I see, I think,
I wonder", which made the students reflect on different aspects of society of that time.
From there, we were working in different areas: in Art Education, focused on period
costumes, we carried out a design process: from thinking about the idea, searching and
processing the information to making patterns, to end up sewing an sample of female
attire and another male, inspired by the 16 th century, specifically in the fashion of England.
Through all this process, we have worked the different materials and sewing techniques.
6 th grade of Primary Education did not want to be left out of this project, so they also
collaborated working the 16 th century kitchen. Thus, they elaborated a cookbook and
represented different typical Spanish dishes from that period with clay, tempera and
plasticine.
