Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania
A group of teachers from our school visited the reconstructed
Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. They took two
exhibition tour routes that gave a well-rounded view of the
development of the palace, its role in Lithuanian history and
culture as well as its political and artistic ties with the rest of
Europe and Asia. The teachers were interested in educational
programmes and innovative history teaching that would be
interesting for their students.
Integrated history and art lesson
7b grade students Goda, Gabija, Liucija and Dovydas became
teachers for primary pupils. At first, they told the legend
about Duke Utenis, the founder of Utena town. The Duke
built a castle near Norkūnai mound on Utenėlė stream and
since then the history of Utena has begun.Unfortunately, the
castle did not survive, so the „teachers“ invited pupils to turn
on their imagination and depict the Utenis castle that stood
many centuries ago.
