onfession time. Until we received
our review copy of The Maker by
Chris August I had never listened
to his music. I don’t know why, but Mr
August’s previous two albums - No Far
Away (2010) and The Upside of Down (2012)
- had simply slipped under my radar.

inspiring. In a similar manner to other
artists such as Matthew West and Brandon
Heath, Chris August takes his music to the
next level by using his words to paint vivid
pictures and tell grand stories, much like a
psalmist or poet. In the opening track
August sings…
The Maker is Chris August’s new album and
I have to say from the outset, what an
album it is! Musically diverse, story like
lyrics, and a Godly passion and adoration
that literally flows from each song, this is
by far and away one of the best CCM
albums of the year so far!
“I see You, You are creation,
I see the grandness of Your majesty,
The universe is singing all Your glory,
I can't believe You live inside of me”
Featuring 11 tracks, The Maker is a solid
CCM release albeit with some interesting
twists and turns along the way; most
notably some light rock on the first few
tracks, and some groovy 1970’s era funky
overtones make their way onto the album’s
last few tracks.

Chris August has an amazing voice and vocal range, and musically the songs on The
Maker are well written, played, and
produced. But this album doesn’t just
sound good, the lyrics are also God
centered, thought-provoking, and
From “The Maker”
Standout tracks include the CCM tracks
“The Maker” and “I’m In Love With You”,
the southern funk track “Muddy Waters”,
and the synth-pop tune “Gotta Be A
Change”, which is by far and away the best
track on the album and has all the makings
of a number 1 radio hit.
The Maker is a fine album and without a
doubt one I will be returning to . In fact, I
have already planned to check out Chris
August’s previous albums, because if they
are as good as this one I have certainly
been missing out!
