NEWS REVIEWS B ased on the movie of the same name, The Remaining is a faith based end-time horror novel that contains plenty of thrills and chills for lovers of these genres. Title: THE REMAINING Author: Travis Thrasher Rating: Genre: End-times, Horror, Thriller Released by: Tyndale Reviewed by: Christian St John The Remaining follows the lives of several friends. As the story begins, they are together and celebrating as two of their number get married. But no sooner has the happy couple said their “I dos” when chaos, destruction, and unearthly mayhem breaks forth, ushering in the end-of-days. Unlike the plethora of end-times novels and movies out there, The Remaining is quite unique in that it doesn’t take time to unravel and unpack the biblical prophecies pertaining to the end-times - i.e. The Rapture and Heavenly Trumpets. Instead, the story moves rapidly along, like an endtimes freight train, if you will. No seven years here, most of the action takes place in one night. At first I was a little unsure as to what I thought of this book. But after reading the exceptional finale I have come to the conclusion that I loved this book. I have yet to watch the movie, but this novelization is superbly written and expertly paced - it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. BOOK REVIEW Reader take note, The Remaining is a hard book to put down - there is no let up from the book’s opening to the very final page. As such I found this novel to be a fast read. In a world where TV shows and movies such as The Walking Dead are fast becoming the norm as far as entertainment goes, it was great to read a book, that can only be classified as a clean and relatively safe horror novel. The Remaining doesn’t contain all the bloodshed, gore, and blatant disregard for human life that is all too often found in this genre. Okay, yes, there is some violence… and death. But unlike the up close, in-your-face brutality of many of today's horror books and movies, the violence is left, for the most part, to the readers imagination. End-time purists and theologians will probably not like the speed at which the prophecies unfold in the book, and those of a nervous disposition might want to choose something else to read… it may not be violent, but it is scary! However, if you like this sort of thing, then look no further, as The Remaining has it all: thrills, chills, excitement, action, horror, supernatural goings on, end-time events, faith, and ultimately redemption.
