Calloused is their third full length album. And let me tell you… it’s good! Album: CALLOUSED Rating: Genre: Metalcore, Hardcore, Thrash For Fans Of: Demon Hunter, Slayer, Those Who Fear, Living Sacrifice Label: Facedown Records Band Website: www.GideonAL.com Reviewed by: Christian St John 42 > CHRISTIAN REVIEW Previous to this release, Gideon released Costs (First Strike Records, 2011) and Milestone (Facedown Records, 2012). Both of these albums were great releases, and went a long way to establishing Gideon as a force to be reckoned within the Christian Metalcore scene. “Calloused is a thick slab of metal that delivers the goods!” Calloused features the signature Gideon Metalcore sound that fans have come to love. But this time the band digs deep, and pushes themselves in every way to include some excellent technical playing. The end result is a great album that sounds awesome. Sound wise this is a big album. At it’s core, Calloused is a 100% Metalcore release. However, the band have spliced some interesting elements into the mix, including a heavy old school thrash influence, as well as some hardcore and industrial. To boot, there are hints of Slayer and even Linkin’ Park on a few of the tracks (“Savage” “Momentum” and “Prison Eyes”). Musically, Gideon are at the top of their game. They are as good as, if not better, than most other Metalcore bands out there - both Christian and secular. And Calloused has everything needed to help it stand up against any other release in this genre. With Christ-centered lyrics screamed/sung over crunching guitars, backed by a huge wall of bass and drums, Calloused is a thick slab of metal that delivers the goods! Fans of Demon Hunter, War of Ages, and Sleeping Giant should love this album.
