MUSIC REVIEWS THE CLASSIC CRIME ‘WHAT WAS DONE VOL. 1’ Genre: Worship - Label: BC Music Reviewed by: Leah St John - Rating: 5 (out of 5) First off, don’t expect an all-new album from The Classic Crime. While there are two allnew tracks on What Was Done: Volume 1 - A Decade Revisited, it is the first installment consisting of acoustic and rearranged versions of some of The Classic Crimes most popular songs from their works of the past decade. This album showcases a different side of The Classic Crime - a more mellow, melodic side that showcases how much the band has matured and grown in their musical abilities over the years. Needless to say, all of the new and pre-existing lyrics shine alongside the superb musical arrangements throughout. The two new tracks, “Selfish” and “Where Did You Go”, are wonderful additions to The Classic Crime’s catalogue. As for the acoustic and rearranged takes on older tracks, the lyrics remain the same, and the general flow of the songs haven’t been immensely changed. However, the rearranged musical and vocal elements bring a new feel to the pre-existing songs. Between Matt MacDonald’s powerful and emotive vocals, acoustic guitars, additional strings, keys, and percussion, What Was Done: Volume 1 - A Decade Revisited lets fans see the stripped back, unplugged side of The Classic Crime. The resulting songs have been renewed… they have been given a new lease of life. Much like with the release of their ’07 release Acoustic EP: Seattle Sessions, this album proves again that The Classic Crime are not bound by their rock roots, but can branch out and create beautiful and fantastically arranged acoustically driven music.
