Leading the Refill Refill Cheeki is Australia’s original brand of stainless-steel drink bottles being the first brand to introduce stainless-steel alternatives back in 2009 into Australia. Since then Cheeki has been creating a broad range of innovative and sustainable products helping Australians to Refill and Reuse. Today Cheeki has grown both in Australia and around the world with over 18 countries now stocking the brand. Cheeki prides itself on producing quality products but recently have pushed their focus on sharing their Refill Reuse message further and growing their corporate responsibility to give back to the community and the planet. Cheeki has formed strong partnerships with the Lord Howe Conservation Volunteers which is an organisation that was created by the Lord Howe Island Board to coordinate volunteers on the island to assist with conservation programs. These programs include marine studies and plastic pollution studies focusing on the local sea birds and pest eradication. Cheeki provides funding and also provides the drink bottles to keep the teams hydrated. To help keep the Australian mainland working towards a cleaner future Cheeki works closely with Keep Australia Beautiful, 14 Complete Health Message with in particular their Environmentors program. The Environmentor Program is a travelling show that visits schools across NSW teaching primary school children the importance of being waste-wise. Cheeki’s other major partner is National Breast Cancer Foundation. As important as the environment is, Cheeki finds it very important to also support community initiatives. To tie in with the lovely pink coloured products it was only fitting to raise funds for a great cause through a plastic- free alternative. In addition to supporting major partners Cheeki works with many smaller community groups providing product and funding to assist with their projects. However, this year Cheeki noticed that there was a lack of males getting involved with our Refill Reuse message. It got them thinking, why aren’t more males getting involved? Are there social sigmas around the eco-friendly movement? A recent study by Penn State University indicated that males were less likely to get involved with environmentally friendly tasks labelling them “gendered.” Cheeki wasn’t too keen on this so called “gendered” approach since we all share this planet and we all need to help keep it clean. So, Cheeki went on the lookout for the perfect ambassador to help break these social barriers. Then Cheeki met Ryan Girdler, family Cheeki man, cafe owner and rugby league commentator based on Sydney’s Northern Beaches who embodies what Cheeki is all about. Simply swapping the single-use to reusable products. Making little changes that make a big difference. Men, women, young and old, everyone can do it. Coming into summer was the perfect time to encourage all Australians to help protect the Australian coastline, ocean and marine life from plastic pollution by choosing healthy, sustainable and quality alternatives to disposable plastic. Working with Ryan Cheeki has already started to promote their Refill Reuse message through new channels and new customers who may not have previously been keen on the eco-friendly idea. Moving into 2020 Cheeki plans to build on their current partnerships but also have ambitions to create new partnerships to build on their Refill Reuse message and to help more community events, organisations and individuals.
