How long has LiveLife Pharmacy been operating ?
Our store has been open since May 2014 in its current location as LiveLife Pharmacy . My husband ‘ our Pharmacist ’ Jamie has been running the store since December 2014 and I returned back to work as Retail Manager at the end of 2018 after taking time off to raise our family . Our team and store has grown over the past 5 years and we are very proud of our store and the service we provide .
Who are your main types of customers ?
We have such a wide range of customers , we ’ ve always had lots of elderly customers , families and tourists visit us for essential Pharmacy items . However , over the past 9 months we have been evolving into a Whole health destination by growing our Health Foods and Supplements departments and as a result we have started to see a wider range of locals and out of towners seeking some of the amazing health foods and eco-friendly ranges we are stocking . During our peak tourist season we see lots of families and grey nomads stopping by to visit glorious Mission Beach .
What is it about your store that is distinctly different from other pharmacies and health food stores ?
We are a local family run business , we don ’ t compete on price but we focus on service and quality of products . When a customer visits us , they are our priority , we have invested in our staff to help customers identify their needs including the addition of a Naturopath / Nutritionist in store .
We spend a great deal of time each month investigating new products , keeping up to date with the latest trends and ensuring we keep our store looking presentable and well stocked with new ranges . As I ’ ve been focused on health food ranges I ’ m very passionate about selling products that really taste good and are easy to use so for me trying out products and sharing with staff helps us to provide a better experience and insight for our customers .
We have also created a ‘ Health Food
Ambassador ’ programme , where we have a select number of individuals in the community who try out new ranges into store for FREE In return they write a review and post for us on social media , above everything we find that we are learning more about our products and feeding this back into our community has helped us shape future ranges we select to stock in store .
What are the changes in peoples buying habits you have noticed over the past couple of years ?
We are finding our customers are really appreciating the home-grown Australian brands , with the focus being on sustainably packaged products and growth in health foods which cater to various dietary requirements .
For us ‘ health foods ’ is a term used to describe foods which are healthy , but also foods which allow people who are often unable to eat certain foods because of intolerances to eat a wider variety of foods .
A lot of customers want to see naked food where they can bring in their own containers to purchase goods , we ’ re currently in beta testing to make this work in our little store but we ’ re confident that we can meet the growing demand for this in our rural town to become a destination for bulk food products . In the meantime we have been sourcing bulk packaged goods to offer a better value for money and reduced packaging for our customers .
What are the fastest moving categories within your store ?
Sauerkraut and Fermented foods are really popular in our store , we only started stocking them around 4 months ago and we now have a big fridge full such as Kehoes Organics and Peace Love and Vegetables . Our staff favourite is the Dill Cashew Cheese by Peace Love and Vegtables 😊
Gut health is also a big mover for us , from bone broth to fossil shell flour our range
