Thankful that I am fit and healthy, thankful that Steve’s health has been restored, thankful for my beautiful loving family which has grown this year by two, bringing our grandchildren tally to six! Thankful that our business continues to flourish and my dream of some twenty seven years ago of bringing healthy products to others has been realised. I am thankful too that I still love what I do. There is much to be said for job satisfaction and I feel really fortunate that my work allows me to travel throughout our beautiful state and meet so many truly amazing people. I am invited into their businesses to meet these individuals and their co-workers to see how their operation is run and what makes them successful and different to other retailers. Another reason to be thankful for is that I got to escape some of southern Queensland’s coldest winter days when I flew to Far North Queensland to meet retailers, some of whom have featured in this edition. Travelling throughout our glorious state I can understand why we are the envy of the rest of the country and so many southerners are migrating north. Of course, Cairns is always on my favourite places to visit list, it is not only the gateway to the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef, and a place people from all over the world flock to, but it enjoys a tropical climate all year round. The drive up to the Atherton tablelands is spectacularly scenic as you travel along the Kuranda Range Road which climbs the coastal range to the cultural rainforest village of Kuranda, home to the famous Kuranda Markets and a host of other amazing attractions, shops and restaurants. I visited an attractive and historic timber township village on the Atherton Tablelands called Yungaburra, a place where a sense of history and alternative lifestyle culture unite. Situated 720 metres above sea level it is cooler in summer and can be quite chilly in winter. Yungaburra has a small community of about 1,116 people. My trip saw me travel further south to the townships of Innisfail, Mission Beach and Tully. Each destination was bursting with its own unique charm and rich historic stories. However it was the small township of Mission Beach that captured my heart this trip. A natural midway point between Townsville and Cairns, Mission Beach is an unspoilt tropical paradise of World Heritage rainforest fronting 14 kms of golden sandy beaches, and has a population of approximately 3,597 people. The relaxed nature of the area makes it an ideal holiday destination. This area is also blessed with being the habitat of the endangered southern cassowary. Cassowaries can be spotted around Mission Beach walking through fields and paddocks, across roads and even in local’s gardens. The third largest bird in the world, the cassowary which resembles a giant prehistoric turkey is clearly a descendant of dinosaurs. As I said I have a lot to be thankful for and meeting so many warm, passionate and interesting people who play such an important role in the natural health industry really fills my gratitude cup. If you would like me to feature your store in one of our editions I would love to hear from you.
