BEYOND the KITCHEN Other uses of Marigold Swiss Vegetable Bouillon After distributing Marigold Health Food products for 25 years now, we reckon that friends within the health food world will have - at the very least - heard about products such as our Swiss Vegetable Bouillon, in both powder form and cubes. And how convenient it is to have at hand in the kitchen as a cook’s companion to add to so many savoury Sailing dishes. What people might not be so familiar with is how and where it can also be used outside the home. Convalescing When my sister was convalescing in hospital after an operation, she had a very jaded palate. At a particularly fussy time for her taste buds (perhaps it’s the aftermath of a general anaesthetic), she really enjoyed the taste of a hot drink made from a teaspoon of Marigold powder in a mug of hot water. All four of my step-daughters are mad keen sailors. After a difficult struggle with wild weather, a warm nourishing drink is very welcome. That’s where a thermos of hot bouillon can come in handy. Easy to prepare on dry land or at sea, and very comforting. Detoxing and cleansing These days, many of us regularly cut down our intake of coffee or caffeinated tea during a cleanse, for instance. It’s been said that Marigold bouillon is “probably the most delicious caffeine-free hot drink you’ll ever taste”, and detox-ers and cleansers will support that! What an excellent alternative, adding tasty variety to the hot drink options. Spectator sports Whether you’re a spectator or a player, a hot drink at half time gives everyone a positive attitude to the game. Just the thing to take to the footie on a cold winter’s day, or to produce for the team at the school basketball match, or even as a (non- alcoholic) apres ski drink. Camping and travelling ‘Happy campers’ find a teaspoon of bouillon powder, or a cube, in boiling water, makes such a nutritious drink! It doesn’t need the addition of milk or sugar, like tea or coffee. On any trip, it’s easy to take along a supply of the cubes or the powdered bouillon in a small container. Friends who drove 8,500kms to Uluru on their motorbikes took Marigold bouillon along for the ride and said: “It was the best, most hearty and nourishing drink after a long hard day on the road”.
