LIFESTYLE We spoke recently to Kerri Jensen, have some wonderful ideas that we are considering at the moment which we General Manager of Lifestyle are excited about. Enzymes When did your company, Lifestyle Enzymes, begin? Lifestyle Enzymes was started in the mid 1990s by my former employer and naturopath, Robert McIlroy in Noosa Heads, Qld. I worked for Robert for [15] years before he retired and then my husband Wayne and I bought the business in September 2016. You don’t mix herbs with your enzyme formulas. Why is that? Herbs aren’t suitable for everyone. We also don’t believe there is enough research available to show any contraindications of herbs and enzymes together. We like to keep our formulas simple, that way they are better tolerated by the greater population. Why do we need digestive enzymes? Not everyone will know about them. There is much to be gained by taking enzymes. Robert found that 85% of his patients were enzyme deficient and today when a lot of people eat on the run, are stressed, or are simply eating the wrong types of food, then taking digestive enzymes may assist by digesting that food, breaking it down completely, receiving better nutrition from both food and supplements. This process takes the stress off the body, the pancreas in particular, which can lead to an overall well-being, and improved energy. Why should retailers stock Genuine N.Zimes? Genuine N.Zimes is a general digestive formula suitable for all ages from infants through to the elderly. Improved digestion through supplementation with enzymes should be the starting point in any health program. When the body can obtain the energy it needs from the foods we consume, the body will perform wonders. Our enzymes may help to maintain healthy digestive functions and improve digestion. How long do they take to work? Our digestive enzymes work immediately. Best taken with the first few mouthfuls of food, the enzymes will begin to break down food as soon as it reaches the upper stomach. Try them and see! What form do the enzymes come in? Our enzymes come in an easy to swallow capsule and are suitable for vegetarians. All our enzymes are fungal or plant derived, with no added gluten, dairy or soya. How many products do you have in your range? As well as Genuine N.Zimes , which are available in 90 capsule and 180 capsule bottles, we also have three practitioner-only products: Gluteneze, for gluten/wheat intolerance, Executive Digestive, a stronger general digestive formula, and Ultra Inflamase which is our systemic enzyme formula for assisting with inflammation. Do you plan to increase your range further? Yes, but decisions like that take time and are not something we rush into. We 28 Complete Health How many enzymes should we take? Usually one to two capsules with each meal is sufficient, taken with the first few mouthfuls of food. Do your customers really understand what digestive enzymes are and what they do? We hope so! But we also accept not everyone has heard of digestive enzymes. We are passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of our customers. Where do you see the natural health sector heading in the next couple of years and what does this mean for enzymes? Awareness of food intolerances such as gluten and dairy for example is growing rapidly and people of all ages are looking for help with gut and digestive issues. In the USA alone, the market for digestive enzyme supplements is expected to reach US$1.6billion by 2025, almost double what their market was in 2015. People are interested in their health. Lifestyle Enzymes is a locally owned and operated family business in Queensland. Tell us about your family. Even though my husband and I only bought the business 2 years ago I have actually been here for 17 years in a managerial role and I am even more passionate about enzymes having seen first-hand the difference it has made to many customers and former patients of Robert when he was practising as well as to myself. As well as staff, we have involved our daughter, in the social media area of the business. Michelle and her husband have two daughters and Wayne and I also have two sons, Ash and Cam, who are both married.
