We sat down with Mary Tripi, owner of exclusive salon The
Private World of Mary Tripi, in order to discover the best tips and
tricks behind this summer’s trends. “Healthy hair is beauty”, says
Mary simply. She strongly believes that healthy hair is the number
one priority. Without hair moisture, elasticity, and strength, one
cannot achieve that true summer glow. This is why Mary invented
the SHOC treatment- SHOC standing for Strength, Health,
Ondulation, Calming. Mary found that often women abuse their
hair with the wrong products and hot styling tools and thus damage the follicle and shaft. However,
when applying Mary’s homemade
remedy, the thick solution addresses
the bonds that strengthen elasticity,
hydrates the shaft, and seals the follicle therefore ensuring the longevity of the treatment. “We can take
hair that has been over processed
and abused and repair it. When we
assess the client’s hair during initial
consultation, we determine to what
level the hair has been damaged and
proceed to customly formulate our
SHOC treatment to suit the clients’
needs” says Mary Tripi.
After achieving healthy hair, Mary
then says any natural look is easy!
The hair will fall gracefully or hold
any up-do you choose, now revived
with moisture and thickness! Mary
suggests fishtail braids for an easy
look. She states that “they are great
because they can be worn messy
or neat and prim”. You can even
transition your look throughout the
day, start off with a braid and by
the time you unravel it, your silky
locks will have crimped into the
perfect wave. She also suggests using
Davines Hair Refresher Dry Shampoo for restyling and amplifying the look of beach worn hair. “Dry Shampoo not only absorbs
excessive oil and dirt in the scalp but also thickens and volumizes
the root allowing effortless waves to be maintained throughout the
whole day” Mary exclaims.
If fishtails aren’t for you, try a top knot. They’re easy, fun and
stylish. The top knot gives you a clean refreshing look that makes
your skin glow. As for products, protect your hair in the heat
using Masquintense by Kerastase first and then tie it in a bun.
“This product keeps the hair hydrated all day and protects colour
damage as well” Mary adds. Lastly, try a French twist; yes I said
a French twist! This busy girl up-do never goes out of style and
I can certainly attest to that. There are many ways you can wear
it. Mary suggests you leave the ends down for a simple effortless
look, and the best part is it only takes a minute to do!
As for summer hair colour trends, Nicholas Vrettakos, colour
specialist at The Private World of Mary Tripi, suggests trying
the Ombre look. Nicholas states, “Ombre is very soft, and very
relaxed. Look for dimension in hair colour, as it is about soft contrasts, not extreme; it subtly shifts
from darker to lighter.” Ombre gives
the illusion that you have been in
the sun all day even if you haven’t.
The one trick with this trend though
is to have it done by a professional
because you don’t want it to look
like a botched at home experiment.
“It is very sophisticated when it is
done correctly.” Nicholas adds.
What better way is there is complement healthy hair than with healthy
skin? The perfect summer complexion must have a healthy glow.
Cheryl Gushue, Creative Director
for SB890, the in-house makeup
and photo studio, at The Private
World of Mary Tripi suggests
mixing foundation and highlighting cream together before applying for glowing summer skin.
Cheryl advises you to remember to
match the skin with foundation.
“Blending is also very important,
along with matching the skin to the
foundation”. Cheryl prefers using
the Beauty Blender for a flawless
application, followed by applying
highlighter; “apply on the upper
cheekbones, and brow bone”. She also proposes to apply Mirabella Gilded Glow on the shoulders, face, neck and décolletage.
Lastly, a cream blush like one from Ellis Faas is much more refreshing and “it looks healthy and more natural than a powder
blush”, Cheryl adds. “Apply cream blush with your fingers or with
a sponge on the apple of your cheek”. Top it off with lipstick in
bright colours, such as summer’s hottest new shades of orange or
red.
