But besides Vanasse’s drama-laden filmography, she also
recently co-stars on the ABC psych-thriller soap opera
Revenge, along with a strong ensemble cast of television
mainstays. Playing the wily Margaux LeMarchal, Vanasse
describes her as a girl with very strong opinions and
unafraid to divulge those opinions. Despite starting off
as a recurring character in Season Three, Vanasse and her
character was upgraded to series regular by the start of
Season Four. It’s a testament to how much Vanasse’s
powerful acting capabilities translate into a television
situation. But, as much as she enjoys being on television,
engaging with regular viewers, Vanasse says she cannot wait
to get back into film. The idea of following a strong visual
point and taking cues from a director is a much more
visceral experience for her. “I’d love to work with Denis
Villeneuve again, because I’m not in my early twenties
anymore. I’m not a teen anymore. It’s interesting to see,
during some times in your life, what you can give to a
director.” If a reunion between Vanasse and Villeneuve
occurred, maybe some sort of high art French-Canadian
film, it could be the moment Québec needs to solidify
itself in the industry. Who knows, maybe Karine Vanasse is
the hero Québec has been waiting for – she’s got the creds
for it. Now, let her apply for the position.
