CHLOE MAGAZINE fused with the old and with the new, mixing MODERN DESIGN touches with themes from ATHENIAN CULTURE New Hotel strives to maintain links with the local neighbourhood wherever possible. Under the initiative of Yes! Hotels owner and renowned art collector Dakis Ioannou, and with the Brothers’ guidance, the University students and reused, recycled and reinterpreted local materials and culture, creating striking results. This includes using the old Olympic Palace sign to create innovative coffee tables, and a selection of forgotten everyday materials such as ageing fabric samples and rusty ladders, to transform the Scandinavian chair into an array of unique pieces. A nod to the hotel’s past, New Hotel has maintained the black marble staircase and its typical 1940s solid-wood balustrade from the old “Olympic Palace Hotel” which once operated where New Hotel now stands. New Taste restaurant is located on the ground floor of the hotel and again pays homage to the old Olympic Palace Hotel that stood before it, by creating contemporary art from its old and forgotten.
