The 7 sorrows are: 1. The Presentation in the Temple This is when Mary takes Jesus to the temple to be circumcised. While there, an elderly man named Simeon takes the child in his arms and says that since he has now seen the Christ, he can die in peace. He also tells Mary that a sword shall pierce her heart. This can be found in Luke 2:22-35 2. The Flight into Egypt This is when Mary, Joseph, and Jesus flee into Egypt, because Joseph was warned in a dream by an angel that King Herod will try to stop Christ from “taking over” his kingdom by killing all the baby boys. They stayed in Egypt until Herod was dead and the threat was over. This can be found in Mathew 2:13-21 3. Loss of Jesus for Three Days When Jesus is twelve, He is taken to Jerusalem for the Feast of Passover. On the return journey, Joseph and Mary find at the end of the first day that Jesus is not with them. Anxiously, they search for Him. Nobody in the streets, not even the beggars, can tell them where He is. Not until the third day do they find Him, in the Temple asking the priests questions. When they told Jesus they have been looking everywhere for him, he just said, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know I’d be in my Father’s house. This can be found in Luke 2:41-50 2 Children of the Rosary
