In 2003, The Barlow girls met Otto Price who later became their permanent producer. Otto helped the girls record their first demo, then when he took it to the founder of Fervent Records, BarlowGirl got signed to a record contract. Finally on February 24th, 2004, BarlowGirl released their first self-titled album ‘BarlowGirl’. Since then, they have released four more albums: ‘Another Journal Entry’ (2005), ‘How Can We Be Silent’ (2007), ‘Home For Christmas’ (2008), and their most recent album, ‘Love and War’ (2009). Mr. and Mrs. Barlow (Vince & MaryAnn) travel with the girls as their Sound & Road manager, unofficial driver, and merchandise manager. Because the Barlow parents and daughters stay together, they are able to keep that strong family bond that could easily be broken had the Barlow girls chosen to tour alone. In ‘Love and War’, there is a track called ‘Tears Fall’. It is a pro-life song, and very powerful. With only a piano, and Alyssa’s amazing lead vocals, this song captures so many emotions, and really gets the message that abortion is wrong, and so many innocent babies are killed because of this choice that we make. I think the most powerful line in the song is: And all our claims to freedom have become these heavy chains/And in the names of rights, we keep filling nameless graves. In conclusion, BarlowGirl is really a great group, and great role models. Even though they aren’t Catholic, there is never anything offensive in any of their lyrics, and they are very strong in their faith. I would recommend them to anyone! Some of my favorite songs by them are ‘Clothes’, ‘Average Girl’ and ‘Beautiful Ending’, but it’s hard to choose a favorite from all their songs, because each song holds a different message, and all of them are important. Rebecca, Alyssa and Lauren are such great songwriters, and they state what the issue is without being overbearing, but at the same time, being very forward. If you have not heard of this band before, I suggest you go check it out! You will not regret it. 14 Children of the Rosary
