Alternatively, a Great Choice Indie music is enjoying unprecedented popularity By Trevor Tosto Chieftain Staff After nearly a year of amazing music, it’s truly been a solid run for the Alter- native Rock and Indie genre. Artists such as Imagine Dragons, the Killers, the Lumineers, and more have been on the top of the charts once again. Some new bands have set their name in stone, such as Portugal. The Man, and their popular songs “Feel it Still” and “Live in the Moment.” One of the most popular bands, Cage the Elephant, re- turned with a new album, “Unpeeled,” with unpeeled (acoustic cover) versions of their previous jams and a new single, “Whole Wide World.” The FIFA Connection EA Sports’ FIFA video game is re- nowned for the soundtrack it releases annually, to go with each new version of the game. The game accommodates numerous variants from the Alternative Rock genre. FIFA 18 dropped in September, and the music soundtrack is still being praised. Containing artists such as Alt- J, Lorde, and Sir Sly, this year’s edition has lead artist to exposure and helped careers boom. The Script also returned with a brand new album after being missing in action for three years. Their new album “Freedom Child” got them back to the top of the radio queue with “Rain.” And mainstays like Imagine Dragons haven’t stopped their roll, releasing popular song after popular song, such as “Believer” and “Thunder.” Overall, this has been one solid year for the respective genre. With new art- ists emerging and classic artists return- ing, we, the fans, are left satsifi ed and content.
