Alternatively, a Great Choice
Indie music is enjoying unprecedented popularity

After nearly a year of amazing music,
it’s truly been a solid run for the Alter-
native Rock and Indie genre. Artists
such as Imagine Dragons, the Killers,
the Lumineers, and more have been on
the top of the charts once again.
Some new bands have set their name
in stone, such as Portugal. The Man, and
their popular songs “Feel it Still” and
“Live in the Moment.” One of the most
popular bands, Cage the Elephant, re-
turned with a new album, “Unpeeled,”
with unpeeled (acoustic cover) versions
of their previous jams and a new single,
“Whole Wide World.”
The FIFA Connection
EA Sports’ FIFA video game is re-
nowned for the soundtrack it releases
annually, to go with each new version
of the game. The game accommodates
numerous variants from the Alternative
Rock genre.
FIFA 18 dropped in September, and
the music soundtrack is still being
praised. Containing artists such as Alt-
J, Lorde, and Sir Sly, this year’s edition
has lead artist to exposure and helped
careers boom.
The Script also returned with a brand
new album after being missing in action
for three years.
Their new album “Freedom Child”
got them back to the top of the radio
queue with “Rain.”
And mainstays like Imagine Dragons
haven’t stopped their roll, releasing
popular song after popular song, such
as “Believer” and “Thunder.”
Overall, this has been one solid year
for the respective genre. With new art-
ists emerging and classic artists return-
ing, we, the fans, are left satsifi ed and
content.
