DETROIT

Continued from Page 1 finish line right at Joe Louis Arena .
The race was a great experience as a whole . I finished around 9:05 a . m ., and my mom finished up shortly after me . We took some photos , and headed back to our car .
On the way back , the city was even more alive , with people flocking in for the parade and the rest of the festivities .
If you have the chance to run in the Turkey Trot , do it .

Parade
Most people around the country watch the Macy ’ s Thanksgiving Day Parade , but Detroiters don ’ t have to watch a parade on TV . America ’ s Thanksgiving Parade was a great experience for me , just as it has been for so many Michiganders .
I remember waking up early and putting on two sweatshirts to stay warm . Before my family and I made it down to Woodward Avenue , it was an essential to go to Tim Horton ’ s for Timbits and hot chocolate .
When we got downtown , it was important to set up seats near the rails so we could get the best view of the floats as possible .
During the parade , the floats were nothing short of spectacular . The creativity and size of each float brought the best out of the crowd , which had an electric energy .
I remember seeing a gigantic clown balloon in the sky right near the Fox Theater . The ideas of the floats varied . For example , the last one was Christmas-themed , with Santa waving to the crowd . It was very fitting because , as we know , the Christmas spirit carries on immediately after Thanksgiving , alive and well in the D .
To end the parade on such a high note was a memory that will stick with me for a long time .
Reflecting on my time at the parade , I realize that it is important to get active and enjoy the whole day .

Lions Game
I ’ ve watched the Lions compete on Thanksgiving on television for as long as I can remember . However , the first game I attended wasn ’ t until I was 13 years old , in 2014 .
I remember it like it was yesterday . The November air was cold as I woke up early in the morning to go downtown . My dad and I arrived at the stadium to tailgate around 10:45 a . m . I enjoyed eating caramel apples and trying all the different dips that we shared with some of my dad ’ s friends .
The time came to enter the gates and I couldn ’ t have been more happy to finally watch the Lions play . The Bears jumped out to a 14-3 lead , leaving everyone stunned at what was taking place . As the second quarter started , the Lions seemed to come alive and stormed back with 21 unanswered points .
As halftime approached , the Lions had a comfortable 24-14 lead . We headed up to the concessions a bit early to get a head start on everyone else that may want something to eat .
The second half began , and the Lions ’ defense began to smother the Bears . Chicago managed only a field goal to bring them within seven points .
Matthew Stafford and his connection with his receivers was electric that day and proved not to fade away in the third and fourth quarters . The Lions scored ten more points and seemingly put the game out of reach for a struggling
Bears team .
The final score was 34-17 , and after the game we met some players and I was able to get a Lions mini helmet signed by several , one being Calvin Johnson .
The feeling of being a part of the Lions Thanksgiving game is special and will always be a date I circle on the calendar .
