Take it Easy on the Grinch
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without this villain
By Bobby Kunz

Christmas is a time for rejoicing,
relaxing and festivities. Everybody
seems to love Christmas, and for good
reason. You get to have time off from
work or school, see family,
give gifts, receive gifts, and
life is all good.
Not many things are as
universally loved in life
as Christmas and Santa,
but what often gets hated
on is the Grinch. Every
Batman needs a Joker,
and the Grinch is that for
Christmas, the season’s
scapegoat.
People don’t realize how crucial he
is. The Grinch is half of Christmas
-- just look at the colors: Santa is red
and the Grinch is green. These are the
colors of Christmas.
The Grinch gets pinned as evil and
cruel, but that is a common miscon-
ception. He doesn’t hate people, he
just hates the holiday. He lives in his
cave and doesn’t harm anybody up on
Mount Crumpet.
The Grinch is nothing but peaceful
all year until late December. Most
villains cause problems all year-round,
but the Grinch hides in his cave with
his dog, Max, for the 50 other weeks
of the year. Everybody has pet peeves,
and maybe this holiday is just a very
big one for him.
Has anybody tried to get to know
the Grinch? If you’ve been exiled from
society, wouldn’t you fi ght back, as
well? The Grinch has had to put up a
shield his whole life.
As some may know, “The Grinch” is
a new movie. With the production of
this new movie, the second
remake of the 1966 classic,
the Grinch is bigger and
more famous than ever. If
the Grinch really wasn’t
important, would they keep
making fi lms about him?
The new version of this
fi lm, animated like the
original and unlike the 2000
live-action fl op starring Jim
Carrey, is clearly steered
toward juveniles. Who would produce
a children’s movie about a horrible
monster?
I’m sick and tired of our green, furry
friend not getting the respect and dig-
nity he deserves. I believe he can be a
functional piece of our society.
Some Things to Watch in 2019
By Mike Singleton

As 2019 approaches, we take a look
back on a year full of ups and downs,
new technology and crazy events.
Politics was probably at its most
controversial in recent history,
with the Russia probe and Donald
Trump’s controversial decision to
separate families and deport dream-
ers as part of his tough stance on
immigration. With the midterm elec-
tions, the House of Representatives
has been fl ipped upside-down, as
Democrats have taken the majority.
Outside of politics, climate change
has threatened our environment, with
wildfi res and hurricanes. Making
technology news in 2018 is the iPhone
XS, XS Max and XR, the Apple Watch
Series 4, and the Google Home Hub.
The greatest sport moments include
Villanova beating Michigan to win
the NCAA Mens Basketball Cham-

pionship; the Golden State Warriors
and Boston Red Sox winning more
championship; and the Philadelphia
Eagles and Washington Capitals sur-
prising everyone with their titles.
Here are some predictions for 2019:
With the big shift in Congress, Trump
Look for more new products from Apple
will see threats of indictment, and
maybe even impeachment. More will
come out about his connection to
Russia through the Mueller Russia
probe. Nancy Pelosi will use most
of her power as the Speaker of the
House to pass the Dream Act and

protect undocumented U.S. immi-
grants.
Duke will take the NCAA Tourney,
and the Warriors will easily win
another NBA Championship. The
Patriots will once again lift the Lom-
bardi Trophy. Alabama will win the
football’s National Championship,
the Astros win the World Series, and
the Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup.
We will see more severe weather as
long as politicians deny the existence
of climate change. Here at home, we
will see a decline in the auto industry,
as GM drops six of its models, caus-
ing higher unemployment in Detroit.
New technology to look for in 2019:
Apple’s iPhone 11 and Airpods 2. We
also probably will see the fi rst com-
mercial 5G phone.
Last but not least, there are two
video games scheduled to release
that should make some noise: “Metro
Exodus” and “Resident Evil 2.”
