October Walk from The Barley Mow at Walderton — by Cathy Martin
A few raindrops at the start of the first CYC ramble of the winter 2016 season did not deter the 42 hardy souls .
The plan was a six mile circular hike starting at The Barley Mow in Walderton , over the downs and back for lunch and a drink or two . All went well , but inevitably with so many of us the crowd was strung out and there were a few stragglers who needed to be herded together now and again . ( Done admirably by Tim in his farmer ’ s hat and the help of a gate ).
A few members approaching the half way point decided to take a short cut back , arriving at the pub almost an hour before the rest of us .
The weather was very kind and the sun shone warmly for the latter part of the walk , allowing us some clear views across the high ridge to the Isle of Wight whilst we had our coffee break .
Back to the pub in good time for some well served food and a drink , and within the hour the heavens opened . What luck !
