Nautical sayings in everyday use . This month : Batten Down the Hatches
If a storm was looming it was necessary for the ship ’ s carpenter to nail extra battens across the hatches to prevent ingress of water to the hold and cabins below .
These days we refer to expedient behaviour in advance of predicted trouble as “ Battening down the hatches ”.
CYC / CCRC Golf Match
Our annual golf match against the CCRC takes place as usual , at Hill Barn Golf Club , Worthing , on Friday , 7th April .
This match is normally well supported by all sections of the club .
This will be our 10th year of the match . Our matches are always very close and often go down to the last match to decide the winner , but it is always a good fun day .
