That will enable us to put together a more
complete policy on collecting and using
personal information, and in turn enable us to
ensure we revise our practice on retention and
use of personal information and how, for new
members, we obtain consent to collect and use
it. The capture, storage and use of personal
information is a hot topic nowadays – and quite
rightly so given its importance to all of us.
Much of the club’s new information policy will
be captured in a Privacy Statement which we
will publish. This will set out the legal basis on
which information is collected, how we use it
and store it and how we will respect members’
rights with regard to that information. We’ve got about five months to get organised
and that should be ample.
The GC has put GDPR at the top of its agenda
and will ensure members are kept informed on
progress.
It might seem a case of bureaucracy running
rampant but it’s an important topic which we
would all think important to get right. If you
have any thoughts or suggestions on the new
legislation then please contact the office.
