Our Guide will be Andrew Negus
Meet at 10.15am on Saturday 24 February 2018
We will meet at The Hard just outside the Dock Gates where the
park and ride bus stops.
Following Andrew’s popular series of fascinating lectures on Old
Portsmouth, he has offered to give us a guided walk of the city.
The cost for the tour will be £4 payable on the day.
The tour will last approximately 2 hours and will be mostly flat
but with a few steps.
Afterwards we can relax over a drink and lunch at the seafront
pub “Still and West”. Menu choices will be available nearer the
time.
There will be no organised transport, but it is recommended that
you drive to the park and ride car park and get the bus into
Portsmouth.
Numbers are limited. Book your place with the CYC office.
The Walk
In the 12th Century streets we shall walk in the steps of royalty,
harlots and tars, convicts on their way to Australia, and Nelson
himself.
We will visit fortifications from several different centuries,
explore the camber where it all began, and see the site of a
duke’s grisly murder.
There will be evidence of much bomb damage, some very
attractive buildings and several nice surprises.
Lastly and perhaps most importantly, we shall see where the
glory that is Portsmouth Football Club began!
