There is one more lawful basis which applies to
personal data the club holds - albeit very briefly
- and that is CCTV, where images of members
and visitors are captured. The club uses this for
the security of buildings, equipment etc and of
course to enhance the safety and security of
members and visitors and for these purposes
neither contract nor consent is appropriate. regard to the personal data organisations hold
on them.
Those rights apply to CYC as well as to
Facebook!
The next thing you will see from the Club, in
May, is its Privacy Notice; that will tell you what
data the club holds, why it has it, what it does
with it and how long it keeps it.
Instead the club will rely on “legitimate interest”
as its lawful basis for processing personal data.
The General Committee has just agreed a new
operational policy on Personal Data Protection
and this will shortly be available to members on
the website, from mid-April. Little did I expect when I joined this Yacht Club
that I would end up thinking about new EU data
regulations (Brexit not having any impact) but I
suppose its symptomatic of modern life and as
our personal data is nowadays a very valuable
commodity – ask Cambridge Analytica - we all
need to be concerned with what happens to it!
Please have a look and if you have any
questions or comments put them in an email to Never mind, the new season is upon us and I‘ll
the office and we will attempt to respond. The
soon be concentrating on proper sailing club
policy also includes the rights of individuals with stuff!
