LUNG HEALTH EXPERIENCE San Antonio Since its debut at CHEST 2016, the Lung Health Experience has visited six North American cities, and over 2,000 members of the public have toured its educational offerings. This flagship community service program continued to draw attention in San Antonio at CHEST 2018. In partnership with the San Fernando Health and Safety Fair, CHEST Foundation board members, volunteers, and staff members teamed up together on an unseasonably hot October day to share patient education materials and provide free spirometry screenings to the public. During the 3 hours of operation, over 250 San Antonio residents visited the Lung Health Experience and received a spirometry test from volunteer clinicians. Despite the hot weather, the tradition of hosting the Lung Health Experience alongside the annual meeting continued to be a success. Foundation staff members are hard at work with our industry and nonprofit partners to select cities and dates for the Lung Health Experience tour in 2019. Keep a close eye on the CHEST Foundation’s website for updates and announcements regarding the Lung Health Experience. If you are interested in getting involved by volunteering for future events, email Andrew Gillen, CHEST Foundation Programs and Development Specialist, at [email protected]. Thank you for your continued support to make this important community service initiative possible! “Until the day comes that we’re surprised about gender inequities in health and healthcare and those gaps are closed, we need to raise our voices to speak about this as women AND men at work, at home and in our communities.” —Roslyn F. Schneider, MD, FCCP WOMEN & PULMONARY The Women & Pulmonary program is celebrating its one-year anniversary after it was launched at CHEST 2017 in Toronto. The program stems from the continual conversation between female pulmonologists, discussing important topics ranging from career advancement and how to tailor treatment for women with pulmonary diseases. Because of these passion- ate conversations from the Women & Pulmonary Advi- sory Committee, foundation donors, CHEST members, and our amazing partners at Boehringer Ingelheim, Ge- nentech, and Sunovion, the program has rapidly grown. The Women & Pulmonary luncheon in San Antonio at CHEST 2018 was a great success. Over 275 attendees came to network, connect, and be inspired by the presentation from Dr. Roslyn Schneider. Dr. Schneider shared her impactful story that as female pulmonologist you don’t need to follow the guided path, but instead the one that works best for you. With a career in academia and then moving to Pfizer, she can certainly attest to creating a non-traditional path to success. The second resonat- ing theme to the luncheon was the importance of a support network. “Be sure to have a full network of support behind you from your family, mentors and colleagues because they will help you create your own successful career path.” We look forward and encourage you all to partic- ipate in our upcoming events!
