CHEST Foundation Donor Spotlight December 2018 | Page 2

PRESIDENT’S Letter The CHEST Foundation Board of Trustees, staff, and I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your wonderful support and constant commitment to the CHEST Foundation’s mission of championing lung health. I would like to thank the 2017-2018 CHEST Foundation President, Dr. Lisa K. Moores, for her leader- ship and guidance. I would also like to welcome our newest board members: Drs. Candace Huebert, Jairo Melo, Barbara Phillips, David Steiger, and Patti Tuomey. They will enhance our board with their experience and diversity. I have inherited a foundation that is poised for growth and is truly ready to expand all that we do in supporting patient education, community service, and research. Over the next year, I am excited to focus on several initiatives. Communication among our boards, mem- bers, donors, and those interested in lung health within our community is key to our success in building our programs. We now have joint board sessions, expanded reach with our events to members and non- members, and have foundation representation on CHEST’s new Digital Strategy Taskforce. As we work on continuing to broaden our involvement from CHEST members, we are also enlarging our circle of donors to include those in our communities, both individuals and corporate sponsors, who are passionate about lung health. I want to share with all how our daily efforts change the lives of patients, assist our clinicians in caring for their patients, and help support the careers of our grant winners as they work on research to better fight lung diseases for patients, not only nationally, but all over the world. The upcoming 2019 year for the CHEST Foundation will be filled with many exciting events. Launch of our 2019 grant cycle will begin on February 1, 2019. In 2018, the CHEST Foundation gave out more than $500,000 in research grants and funded over 70 travel grants, our largest grant year yet. We hope to make 2019 even more of a success with the addition of grants in new disease areas, increased funding of community service projects, and an increase in the number of travel grants. We have 2019 community outreach events planned to help educate patients. I am most delighted to announce our unique fundraising events planned for 2019. I am excited that we will have the inaugural CHEST Derby Dinner and Auction on Kentucky Derby Day, Saturday, May 4, 2019, in my hometown, New York City. This NYC Derby Dinner and Auction will be held at the Water Club in Manhattan and is open to all members of CHEST and our lung health community. There will be a silent and live auction led by our Master of Ceremonies, CHEST Past President Dr. Mark Rosen. Save the date and plan to join us for cocktails, dinner with live entertainment, and the silent and live auctions. Derby hats are welcome! We will also have a repeat of the successful Irv Feldman Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Night, which will occur in Chicago on March 2, 2019, in partnership with the Feldman Family Foundation. These events will help raise funds for patient education, community service, and research projects. We have a very busy and exciting year ahead. We cannot do this alone and thank you in advance for your continued support of the CHEST Foundation and all of our endeavors. I also want to thank our dedicated staff for all of their hard work and innovation. Good communication is essential, so I promise to share our progress with you as we reach our goals. From all of us at the CHEST Foundation, we wish you and your families a healthy and happy holiday season. Sincerely, Dr. Doreen Addrizzo-Harris, MD, FCCP DE C E MBER 2018
