FOUNDER’S NOTE In 2015, I worked at Angelina Jolie’s Foundation in rural Cambodia implementing an environmental health research. The purpose was to create a database for community health workers and the foundation to come up with a health strategy for 2020 in Battambang, Cambodia. It was the first research of its kind since the establishment of the foundation in 2003. It was not until then that I realized that capacity strengthening is essential in the grassroots level and that hands-on work can play a big role in it. However, the current efforts for community healthcare strengthening are not enough to combat the huge challenges the world is facing. The methodology needs to be upgraded to make our efforts efficient, effective and sustainable. At the same time, the decision making of public policy should include more insights from initiatives on the ground. Partnerships across the micro- level and macro-level should be created to support homegrown innovations and grassroots initiatives that strive to improve health status for all. Diinsider wishes to bring the discussion onto the table and mobilize resources for smaller players. This volume is just the starting point. We have covered various topics regarding health but they are far from enough. In 2018, we are planning to bring more inspiring initiatives to our audience, in addition to what can be seen in this single volume. That being said, the cases in this volume are already informative enough, and have brought critical analysis over topics such as mental health, mobile health, HIV/AIDS, etc. I hope you will enjoy reading them! Thank you for your support and I wish you all a happy and fruitful 2018! Li Bolun 2 Change Magazine January 2018 www.changemag-diinsider.com www.changemag-diinsider.com Change Magazine January 2018 3
