Finding BALANCE This Holiday Season B alance is very important in golf and in life. When golfers hear “balance,” they often think of their swing. At GGGA, we often talk to our students about balance but these conversations are rarely related to their golf game. Most often, we talk about balance in relation to their emotions and daily life. Just like in the swing, when emotional and personal balance is lost, you also lose some control of your golf game and your mental game. With the holiday season here, it is the perfect time to focus on gaining balance in your life - both on and off the course. This is an extremely important lesson in mental training and sport psychology. For some of us this may mean rebalancing our schedules by figuring out how to maximize practice time and effectively deal with challenges we face outside of golf. In short, it means practicing smarter and reprioritizing efforts. At GGGA, we teach our golfers to “put first things first” and “fully focus on the task at hand.” This very simple yet powerful concept in sport psychology can catapult your output and enjoyment this holiday season. One common complaint often heard this time of year is, “I don’t have enough time.” But the truth is, everyone has an equal amount of time – 24 hours in each day. Some golfers are just better at making every moment count. It’s no coincidence; these are typically the most successful and happiest golfers. You may not have the time to practice the amount you want but you can practice the way you want. This requires having a detailed plan and a clear objective that motivates you. Having a plan and objective will bring a focused and determined mentality to your practice. You’ll be pleasantly surprised how much you can accomplish and the massive gains you will make. Finally, take some time away from golf this holiday to foster appreciation and gratitude. We all have something to be grateful for so take this holiday season to reflect on the positive aspects of your life and golf game. You’ll find that you appreciate your time playing golf even more. When you find balance in life, you’ll be surprised how much your game will improve. Happy Holidays from all of us at GGGA! CONGRATULATIONS TO GGGA’S EARLY SIGNEES!
