Arlington Earns Top 10 Spot as SmartAsset 2020
“Best Cities to Buy an Affordable Home” List
In its study, SmartAsset looked at the 100 largest cities across seven variables to identify
the best cities to buy an affordable family home. Those variables include the percentage
of homes with at least two bedrooms, the five-year change in homeownership rate, two
affordability metrics, and three livability statistics.
SmartAsset ranked Arlington the second best in its top 10 and 15th best overall for its
down payment-to-income ratio. That means a 20% down payment on the median home
price in Arlington makes up only 60% of the median household income. The American
Dream City also ranked in the top 15 for housing costs as a percentage of income (21.93%)
and high school graduation rate (90.50%).
