Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau July & August 2017 25 Bureau Business Summer is still buzzing with plenty to keep us occupied. June passed by like a tornado, thank goodness, we didn’t have one! July and August seem to slow down but the office calendar is still full. The Granada Theatre has another concert and some movies too. Live in the Lot concerts continue on Fridays and there’s more ESU Summer theatre. We do love sports in Emporia, more softball and golf tournaments will be in town as well as the Kansas Shrine Bowl east team back for a week of camp at ESU before the big game on July 29 in El Dorado, Kansas. Susan Rathke CVB Director It seems we are always making notes and planning for the next big event or events. One thing we are proud to organize and promote is the All Veterans Tribute celebration. While it doesn’t take place until November, plans are underway. This year, watch for a special publication by Emporia Main Street that features the Veteran banners and the stories that were submitted. The Emporia CVB is always reaching out to our locals. If you would like help finding a site for your family reunion, class reunion, club meeting or conference, or special events you are helping with, contact us. You can help bring tourism dollars to Emporia by holding events locally. The CVB offers free visitor packets and assistance for planning local events. And speaking of assistance, the CVB has support grants. If you are bringing a meeting, conference, sporting event or special event to Emporia, please let us know. Events must mean bringing visitors to Emporia that hopefully spend the night in our lodging establishments. You may qualify for financial assistance to help make your event happen. The next application deadline is August 1 and applications are available in the CVB office and at visitemporia.com. Find out how we can help you make an impact on Emporia’s tourism. Please make sure you are getting your community events on the community calendar. Place your free listing at visitemporia.com. Scroll down to the calendar and follow the prompts. We are always available to answer questions about Emporia, the area, and Kansas.
