go discover LAKES, PONDS, AND RIVERS COLEBROOK OR CANAAN TO MAIDSTONE THE CONNECTICUT RIVER PADDLER’S TRAIL d good Wick h e country t r o n PICK It may be a bit of a drive from “down south,” but a north country paddle rewards paddlers with great fishing, mountain vistas, and plenty of peace and solitude. Day 1: Put in at Arlin Brook. This is an unmarked access on state owned land, across the road from the visitor center on Rte 3, two miles north of Colebrook. If you are feeling really adventurous, travel 7 miles north and put in at the access in Canaan, VT. Paddle about 4.25 miles through quick water to Holbrook Point, a campsite with room for about 3 tents. BODIES OF WATER TO EXPLORE IN THE GREAT NORTH WOODS PADDLING STILL WATER • East Inlet – Pittsburg, NH Day 3: Paddle 3 miles south to Bloomfield. If you need supplies make sure to stop at DeBanville’s General Store or Riverside Market and Deli (just across the bridge). It is 11 miles to a takeout just past the Maidstone Bridge. You’ll find a timber staircase on the New Hampshire side. Tip: The Northern Forest Canoe Trail’s Maine Central Railroad Trestle Campsite makes a good resting point/lunch spot - it is about 7 miles below Bloomfield. Length: 2-3 day trip.
