FIDDLEHEADS AN UNEXPECTED
GEM IN THE NORTH COUNTRY
An artisan gift shop and gallery, offering quality-handcrafted items
that showcases American artisans (with a focus on New England and
New Hampshire) and Canadian & Fair Trade items at a surprisingly
affordable price. Owner Bette Guerin extensively researches unique
offerings keeping the inventory fresh and enticing. An alliance was formed
with CRAG (Connecticut River Artisan Group) in 2010 which comprises a group of
over 50 artisans from New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont and Canada, creating a
gallery space within Fiddleheads to enhance the stores uniqueness. Themed art
exhibits throughout the year, as well as “Artisan Spotlights,” allow visitors to meet
the artists and artisans and gain valuable insight into the featured works.

DIXVILLE NOTCH “FIRST
IN THE NATION”
Since 1960, Dixville has been the first community in the
state and country to cast its handful of votes in national
elections. On election eve, 100% of the eligible voters
gather in the ballot room of The BALSAMS as midnight
polls open and a few minutes later promptly close. The
results are broadcast around the world.
Northern New Hampshire makes you feel like you’re in the middle
of nowhere, when in reality you are actually half way between the
Equator and the North Pole. The 45 th Parallel has two locations,
one in Clarksville, the other in Stewartstown. The 45 th passes
through the United States, Canada, China and Russia, including our
own corner of the globe right here in New Hampshire. Stop and
take a photo and share it on our Facebook page, facebook.com/
NorthCountryChamberofCommerce. You may just get featured in
next year’s guide!
