Kickmaster Footgolf The First of its Kind Nestled right within Grove City is a burgeoning new attraction – though it ’ s not what you ’ d expect . It ’ s the first of its kind in the entire nation – a dedicated footgolf course and soccer theme park called Kickmaster Footgolf . As I enter and walk towards the counter , I spy staff hurrying about , preparing the facility for the grand opening . Outside , the fairway is being meticulously trimmed . Inside , one of the owners , Deborah Guzzo , is putting the final touches on the various attractions . Guzzo greets me graciously , and just as we begin to talk shop , the front door swings open wildly from behind . Bob Clanin enters . He ’ s an owner as well – and the mastermind behind Kickmaster . He is wearing jeans , a T-shirt , and an enormous smile from ear to ear – and for good reason . Another Kickmaster location has just been approved in Mississippi . We begin the interview , and Clanin explains what Footgolf is , and why Kickmaster is so unique . “ Footgolf was created in Europe about five years ago …” he says . “ It has evolved and now there ’ s the American Footgolf league , the US Footgolf league and now there are professional tournaments that are played on weekends . And you actually get paid to play , professional Footgolfers - it ’ s crazy .” “ I had the vision two and a half years ago to create the first dedicated Footgolf course in the entire country ,” he says . “ So , as the idea grew , this whole building grew too and you know what , let ’ s be the very first dedicated soccer theme park in the country as well .” Guzzo picks up without missing a beat . “ There ’ s nothing like this around – there ’ s nothing like this in the United States . There hasn ’ t been one person who ’ s left here and said that this was boring . Yesterday we had thirty-five 5 year olds playing in here with ten adults playing in here , and it was hilarious !”
We walk into a huge indoor soccer field that smells a bit like a new car . The faux grass feels nice beneath my feet , even though hard soled shoes . I ask about the grass . Clanin explains this is no ordinary turf . “ It has no nasty black pellets -its top of the line turf from a partnership between Forever Lawn and DuPont Surrounding us on the field are an array of different games – soccer darts , soccer pool , and bubble balls you can climb into – just to name a few . There are close to a dozen different soccer themed games I ask if there is a weight limit to the bubbles . Guzzo laughs as we walk towards them . “ The bubble balls are ready for whoever can fit in them .” She says , still laughing . Clanin sees the curious look on my face and continues . “ She ’ s not lying !” he chuckles as well . “ We ’ ve had 7 year olds to …” he thinks for a moment . “… we ’ ve had a lady of 78 in there playing !”
