The Craft Show
A Bit of Everything
Art comes in many shapes, sizes and forms. To
showcase all types of art, Arts in the Alley features
a Craft Show in addition to the more traditional art
shows.
Deb Reeves has been a part of Arts in the Alley for
almost a decade, and after a brief hiatus she is back
to welcome artists new and old. Like many, she be-
gan as a contestant before moving up and eventual-
ly running the show.
“I first participated as a contestant in this show and
then took over as the chairperson for a few years,”
she said. “I gave that up, but this year they asked me
to come back and I couldn’t resist.” she finishes with
a smile.
The crafts featured in the show vary wildly, Reeves
explains – and she’s happy to see all of it.
“We get a lot of needlework, cross-stitching, needle-
point, knitting, crocheting, we get some wood prod-
ucts. One year we had some huge cabinets come
in, we’ve had some really intricate clocks that were
made out of wood, we get some paper crafts, it’s a
variety,” Reeves said.
“We used to get leather but we haven’t got much of
that lately. Last year was mostly, more than anything
was needlework, like what I like to do, but it varies
and we’re happy to see any crafts that come in.”
But for Reeves, the best part of the crafts show are
the folks that make it happen – the artists and public
who come to view the art.
“The best part is really the people,” she says, smiling
again. “I love seeing the people come in and look at
the various crafts. I love to talk to the people who
participate. I have a part-time job at a hobby and
crafts store now and I see a lot of the people who
come in there are people who’ve participated in our
finale, they’re all very warm and welcoming.”
