The Fine Arts Show

Dennise Hunt started at Arts in the Alley as a vendor – but it wasn ’ t long until she caught the art bug and wanted to become more involved with the show itself .
Now she is the Vice President of the Grove City Arts Council , and she helps run the fine arts show at Arts in the Alley . She related happily that her favorite part was watching the show grow over the years .
“ It ’ s really exciting time to see the festival grow , and develop as it has . You always learn something new because there ’ s always some new kind of art , or new kind of technique or craft that is shown at this type of festival . That ’ s always nice to see - new artists come on the scene ,” she said . “ It ’ s really interesting to see how many talented people that we have in our community .
Hunt related excitedly that to match this growing crowd , the festival is adding new fun activities this year that she hopes will please visitors old and new alike .
“ We ’ re going to be having some new features this year at Arts in the Alley that we haven ’ t had before . We ’ re going to have a demonstration tent , which will feature different kinds of arts and crafts that artists are going to be demonstrating for the public . That ’ ll be something new and exciting .”
The show has its competitive side as well . During the fine arts show , one talented artist will win the coveted Easel Award – which is an award of $ 2000 paid by the city to purchase the painting .
“ I think the highlight is the Easel award , where we have a special segment of entrants whos work is a representation of Grove City life history or culture ,” She says . “ We have a special judging for that segment . The winner of that has their art purchased by the City and it goes into the city ’ s permanent collection .”
