ommunity offee with Bill adway and one by one I hear them relate how relatable Bill is. “He’s got the best sense of humor of anybody I’ve ever met!” Marty says. Jimmy pipes up after – “He knows everybody by their names that comes through his door!” “No I don’t,” Bill says in a bashful tone, “I swear I re- ally don’t.” Bill gets back to the question, “The Spirit of Grove City... I don’t know. I just like the place, I guess, Kay Kahoe (Left) and Betty Potts (Right) awarding Bill his Marshal sash I don’t know.” he says with a smile. Sure it’s an honor, but they could have picked some more deserving folks, I would think, like Marty down there,” He says with a chuckle. “I’m pretty excit- ed about it. I just—I’m apprehensive. I don’t know. Like I said, you don’t know what shenanigans these guys might pull on me.”I shift attention to the hundreds of patron’s photos that line the walls at Planks. “Are they all customers?” I ask. Yes, those are all customers. That’s my mom and dad up there on the top, right up there. Then a couple of those people up there, we lost them. That guy wrapped in the mill is Fedora, Tomcat and I don’t know – I can’t remember all of their names. He continues on, telling me funny, lighthearted stories about the people in the pic- tures. He pulls an antique hat from under the bar and sits it on my head. I sit there with them, drinking coffee until before I know it - I’m late to work. I think to myself, “I wonder when I’ll be in one of his stories.” A wall of patron’s photos displayed at Plank’s on Broadway CHAMBER BUSINESS CONNECTION 13
