Friday, September 15th - Opening Night Promenade is the first-ever streamed performing arts festival. The all-online festival is just around the corner and you will be able to watch 19 performing arts shows from all over the planet throughout Promenade’s 10-day run. On the same stage, you will be able to watch a wet ballet classic in Norway; an African-inspired circus in France; our favorite Muppet frog and his team at a comedy gala in Canada; a delirious, beautiful, and explosive theatrical performance in Argentina. In one common room, any and all can explore the unique performing arts existing within the many corners of the world. Promenade Festival EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW 12 cennarium.com/promenade/ Brought to you by Cennarium, Promenade is here with its purpose of growing “the global performing arts audience by making great performances more accessible and affordable to a larger portion of the population,” said Themis Gomes, CEO of Cennarium. “Movies, television shows, and music are readily available online; as content is increasingly consumed digitally, we want to make the performing arts just as accessible as other forms of entertainment.” With Promenade, it becomes clear how the access to the arts is a priority for the company. Carefully curated for all tastes, Promenade will be live during every evening September 15 to 24, 2017, broadcasting performances from a variety of genres. Take a closer look at the program as we break down each festival day. PS: In the case you have not gotten your Promenade tickets yet, get yours for free at cennarium.com/promenade/ and enjoy! Both photos by Filip Van Roe ROOM 1 Ravel by Cherkaoui/Verbruggen The French composer Maurice Ravel remains a source of inspiration for any choreographer. Artistic director and star choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and rising talent Jeroen Verbruggen take their vision of Ravel’s music to the stage. Jeroen Verbruggen, who as a young student dancer at the Royal Ballet School won the Prix de Lausanne, has drawn his inspiration from Ravel‘s Pavane pour une Infante défunte and from Ma mère l‘oye. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui also translates Ravel into dance, opting for Pictures at an Exhibition, which was originally composed by Modest Mussorgsky, but which was later orchestrated by Ravel to become the most widely performed orchestration of this work: It has thus become truly canonical. It is a programme full of surprises with which the Royal Ballet Flanders (Ballet Vlaanderen) might just write a page of dance history. #streamthearts #streamarts 13
